Ontarians have until late October to nominate the people, businesses and organizations making a difference in rural communities across the province.
The Ontario government has opened nominations for the 2027 Rural Ontario Inspiration Awards, recognizing contributions to economic growth, community development and opportunity in rural Ontario.
Awards will be presented in eight categories: Rural Inspiration, Rural Community, Rural Entrepreneur, Rural Youth Leader, Rural Economic Innovation, Rural Partnerships, Rural Champion and Rural Heart.
Eligible nominees vary by category and can include municipalities, not-for-profit organizations, businesses, individuals, families, youth and Indigenous businesses and communities. Self-nominations are also permitted.
“In rural communities across the province, people are making a difference every day by stepping up, creating opportunities and helping to build a stronger rural Ontario,” said Rural Affairs Minister Lisa Thompson.
Nominees must demonstrate how their work supports at least one of three areas in Ontario’s Rural Economic Development Strategy: safe and strong rural communities, a growing rural workforce, or business development and attraction.
The province says nominations must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 23. The review process is expected to conclude in December, with only selected recipients contacted.
