A 36-year-old Peterborough man is facing drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop in the city’s downtown Thursday evening.
Peterborough Police say officers with the Community F.I.R.S.T. Unit were on patrol around 5:30 p.m. on September 17 when they spotted a vehicle near George and Townsend streets with unconfirmed insurance.
Officers stopped the vehicle and, while speaking with its occupants, located what police described as drug paraphernalia.
Police say the investigation resulted in three initial charges: possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a Schedule I substance and possession of a Schedule III substance.
Officers subsequently learned the accused was subject to a lifetime prohibition order barring him from possessing certain firearms, weapons, devices and ammunition.
He was then charged with possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
Police have not specified the substances or prohibited item allegedly seized.
The man was taken to the Peterborough Police station and later released on an appearance notice.
He is scheduled to appear in court on December 8.
The charges have not been proven in court.
