The Ontario government has announced funding for three projects in the Northumberland–Peterborough South region aimed at supporting rural economic development.
Northumberland–Peterborough South MPP David Piccini announced the investments through the Rural Ontario Development (ROD) program, a $20-million provincial initiative supporting local businesses, rural workers and long-term economic planning.
The largest investment is $143,169.50 for the Municipality of Port Hope’s Building Resilience: Manufacturing & Energy Sector Readiness project.
The Municipality of Clarington will receive $13,974 for its Orono Economic Development Strategy and Marketing Plan.
Oat & Mill will also receive $10,000 to update its marketing materials.
“Through the Rural Ontario Development Program, we are investing in initiatives that support small businesses, strengthen municipalities, and help our communities plan for long-term growth,” said Piccini.
Rural Affairs Minister Lisa Thompson says the program is intended to help rural communities pursue local economic development opportunities and establish foundations for future growth.
Across Ontario, the province says it is investing more than $5.5 million in 116 projects through the program’s first intake.
