Women from across the Peterborough region will trade their usual workplaces for a construction site next week as Habitat for Humanity brings Women Build back to Norwood.
Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region will hold Women Build ’26 from September 21 to 24, bringing together women from local businesses, organizations and the community for four days of hands-on construction.
Participants will help build three new three-bedroom homes for local families in Norwood.
Construction is already underway, with the foundations in place and the three families who will eventually receive the homes already selected.
They include a three-generation family of women, a single mother raising two teenagers and a young family with two small children living on a single income.
No previous construction experience is required to participate. Each build day includes safety training and hands-on instruction, along with breakfast, refreshments and a Lunch & Learn featuring the story of a Habitat homeowner.
“Women Build ’26 is about bringing that same spirit to the build site and giving women the opportunity to roll up their sleeves, learn new skills and be part of building a home from the ground up,” said Habitat Peterborough & Kawartha Region CEO Susan Zambonin.
Habitat says more than half of the families it has helped locally are women-led households. The organization has assisted more than 100 families with affordable homeownership over the past two decades.
Businesses and organizations can register five-person teams for $2,500, while individuals can participate during the Community Build Day on September 24 with a recommended donation. Sponsored spaces are also available for women unable to afford the donation.
The week concludes with a Women Build Cocktail Celebration on September 25 at the U4 Rooftop Event Space at Euphoria Wellness Spa.
Habitat says 100 per cent of money raised through Women Build will go toward construction of the three Norwood homes.
