Peterborough County OPP charged two drivers with impaired driving within a five-hour span Wednesday, including one driver police allege was more than four times the legal blood-alcohol limit.
The first incident happened around 3:45 p.m. on September 9, when officers responded to a single-vehicle collision on County Road 49 in Douro-Dummer Township.
Police say an SUV had left the road and entered a ditch. After speaking with the driver, an officer suspected alcohol impairment and administered a roadside screening test.
A 69-year-old from Victoria Harbour was arrested and charged with impaired operation and having a blood-alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
He is scheduled to appear in Peterborough court on November 3.
The second incident happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Highway 7 in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township.
OPP say an officer’s Automated Licence Plate Recognition system flagged a vehicle because its registered owner was suspended. The officer followed the vehicle into a parking lot and spoke with the driver.
Police allege further testing produced readings more than four times the legal blood-alcohol limit. Investigators also determined the driver was under multiple driving suspensions and a Criminal Code driving prohibition.
A 31-year-old Peterborough man was charged with having a blood-alcohol concentration over the legal limit, two counts of operation while prohibited, driving while under suspension and several document-related offences.
He is scheduled to appear in Peterborough court on October 20.
Both drivers received additional 90-day licence suspensions and had their vehicles impounded for seven days.
