The Peterborough Petes have added a new defensive prospect after an impressive training camp and preseason.
General Manager and Vice President of Operations Michael Oke announced the club has signed 2009-born defenceman James Buchan to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
The Georgetown native attended Petes Training Camp in August as a free-agent invite after spending last season at St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire.
Buchan scored four goals and added 19 assists for 23 points in 31 games, leading all St. Paul’s defencemen in scoring. Before moving to New Hampshire, he played in the Oakville Rangers AAA system.
The left-shot defenceman also participated in Peterborough’s Development Camp in June before earning another look at Training Camp.
Buchan has appeared in three preseason games with the Petes, recording six shots on goal.
Oke described Buchan as a “big, strong, left-shot defenceman” who has continued to impress the organization throughout the summer.
“This free agent signing is an important piece for the future of our club,” Oke said. “He is an excellent prospect that is a welcomed addition to the Peterborough Petes.”
