Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini is taking on a new role at Queen’s Park as part of Premier Doug Ford’s latest cabinet shuffle.
Piccini has been named Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure, moving from his previous position as Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. The labour portfolio will now be handled by Trevor Jones. Piccini had served as labour minister since 2023.
The Infrastructure Ministry oversees provincial infrastructure planning and funding, including programs supporting local and housing-enabling infrastructure. It also has responsibility for Infrastructure Ontario and the province’s Transit-Oriented Communities Program.
Piccini’s move was part of a broader cabinet shuffle announced by Ford Thursday as the government responds to ongoing trade tensions with the United States.
Ford said the changes are intended to put a team in place that can protect Ontario jobs and workers while making the provincial economy more resilient.
Other changes include Sam Oosterhoff becoming Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness and Brian Saunderson becoming Minister of Sport.
The government is also creating a new Associate Minister of Artificial Intelligence Adoption position, which will be held by Vijay Thanigasalam.
Piccini has represented Northumberland-Peterborough South at Queen’s Park since 2018 and has held several cabinet portfolios during his time in government.
