Peterborough residents will once again walk, run and roll in support of cancer research as the Terry Fox Run returns to Nicholls Oval Park later this month.
The 46th Peterborough Terry Fox Run takes place Sunday, September 20, with registration open from 8 a.m. until noon.
A warm-up and ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 9 a.m., including recognition of Terry’s Team members — participants who have been diagnosed with cancer and serve as a reminder of the importance of cancer research.
The annual event raises money for the Terry Fox Foundation and the cancer research projects it supports.
Organizers say more than 9,000 Terry Fox Runs are organized by volunteers, helping keep overhead costs low and direct more money toward research.
The Peterborough event is non-competitive and open to participants of all abilities. People can walk, run or roll any distance around Nicholls Oval Park or along the Rotary Trail.
A marked 10-kilometre route will also be available with three water stations.
There is no registration fee or minimum fundraising requirement. Participants can collect pledges ahead of the event or make a donation at Nicholls Oval on run day.
T-shirts will be available for $30, with cash and Debit Visa transactions accepted for donations and purchases.
Organizers are also encouraging teams to participate, including families, friends, workplaces, sports teams, neighbourhood groups and clubs.
Refreshments for the Peterborough event are being donated by local businesses, including Lansdowne FreshCo, Metro, Greg’s No Frills, Culligan Water, Costco and Lakefield Foodland.
