With students back in the classroom, new research suggests congestion and dangerous driving remain common concerns outside Ontario schools.
A survey from CAA South Central Ontario found eight in 10 parents experience congestion during school drop-off and pickup times, while 84 per cent reported witnessing at least one dangerous driving behaviour in their child’s school zone.
PTBOTODAY.ca spoke with Manager, Community Relations Tracy Marshall.
The survey also found 63 per cent of Ontario parents described their child’s school zone as not very safe.
CAA says three of the four most frequently reported unsafe behaviours are directly connected to school drop-off and pickup activity.
Officials are encouraging parents to give themselves additional time in the morning to reduce the temptation to double-park or drop children off in unsafe locations.
Families are also being encouraged to follow their school’s designated drop-off and pickup procedures, even when lines are long.
Additionally, Marshall has tips for motorists.
Drivers must also stop for school buses when required by law, including when a bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
