A Peterborough Police Service officer has pleaded guilty in the case of a bullet that was fired into a west-end home on New Year’s Eve.
Ethan Mamers, who was in court in Cobourg on Tuesday, was charged after the incident that occurred around 6:40 p.m. on December 31st, in which a gun was discharged and entered a neighbouring residence on Tully Crescent, causing damage to several walls.
There were no injuries as the homeowners were not home at the time of the bullet entry.
After careful consideration, including two impact statements by the homeowners, the judge handed down a sentence of two years’ probation with a list of conditions, including no contact with the victim’s family, cannot own or use a weapon unless it is in the line of employment and cannot have weapons within his home.
Mammers addressed the court, saying this is something he’ll reflect on for the rest of his life and pledged to do better and hold himself to a higher standard. He also acknowledged the tremendous impact this has had on the victims.
