An expired vehicle permit led to an impaired driving charge following a traffic stop on Highway 28, according to Peterborough County OPP.
Police say an officer was travelling southbound on Highway 28 shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 24, when the cruiser’s automated licence plate recognition system flagged a vehicle for an expired validation.
The officer caught up with the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
According to OPP, while speaking with the driver, the officer determined that the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. An Approved Screening Device test was administered, and police say the result led to the driver’s arrest.
The driver was transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.
Police have charged the accused with operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.
His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 6.
The charge has not been proven in court.
OPP are reminding motorists to plan ahead if consuming alcohol or drugs and arrange for a designated driver, taxi, public transit or overnight accommodations.
