Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith is encouraging residents to support Canadian businesses amid ongoing trade tensions with the United States.
In a statement, Smith said Canada should not accept a trade agreement that comes at the expense of Canadians.
“A deal with the US that hurts Canadians is not the right deal,” Smith said.
He also criticized what he described as last-minute demands from the United States for concessions on issues that had previously been agreed upon.
Smith said the move demonstrates, in his view, that the U.S. had “no interest in actually honouring their word.”
The MPP is encouraging residents to remain supportive of Canadian businesses and their local communities as trade uncertainty continues.
“Stay strong, Buy Canadian and support your neighbours and friends,” Smith said.
