Peterborough author David Goyette is preparing to launch his sixth book and first collection of original poetry with a free event at Showplace Performance Centre.
“Coupling: A Poetic Exploration of Modern Relationships” will officially launch Thursday, September 10 in the Cogeco Studio. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with presentations beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The collection features 55 poems exploring the complexities of modern relationships, from first meetings and infatuation to family pressures, trust, cultural expectations, breakups and forgiveness.
Goyette said poetry offered an opportunity to examine both the rewarding and challenging sides of relationships.
“I wanted to explore the complex world of couples in relationships … their beginnings and endings, their trials and tribulations, their successes and failures,” Goyette said, adding that poetry provided the right format for that emotional exploration.
Ella Bates will host the launch, which will feature readings of selected poems by Tiffany Arcari, Michael Bell, John Boyko, Rosemary Ganley, Leo Groarke, Margaret Hamilton, Lesley Heighway and Jordan Mercier of 96.7 WOW FM and FREQ 90.5.
The free event is open to everyone.
A portion of proceeds from the book will be donated to Kawartha Food Share.
“Coupling” is available locally at Happenstance Books in Lakefield and online through Amazon Canada.
