The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) can confirm that the pilot who was reported missing after failing to return to Oshawa Executive Airport has been located deceased following a multi-agency search effort in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
On August 14, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) requested OPP assistance in searching for an overdue private aircraft believed to have been operating in the Balsam Lake area near Kirkfield.
On August 16, aircraft debris was recovered from Wolfe Lake. Search efforts continued with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR). Two days later, searchers located the aircraft submerged in Wolfe Lake and confirmed that the 73-year-old pilot David Douglas was deceased. He was flying a blue and yellow single home-built aircraft.
The circumstances surrounding the aircraft crash are now under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB).
