Dr. Bob Neville of the Peterborough Petes has been recognized for nearly four decades of service to the Ontario Hockey League.
The OHL has named Neville this year’s recipient of the Bill Long Award for Distinguished Service to the OHL. He was presented with the award during the league’s Champions Reception in Muskoka Lakes.
Neville joined the Petes in 1987 as the team’s physician before joining the club’s Board of Directors in 1995. He later served as President of the Petes Board and currently serves as Governor.
He has also held several leadership roles with the OHL Board of Governors, including Chairman, and remains involved with multiple league committees.
OHL Commissioner Bryan Crawford praised Neville’s long-standing commitment to the league and the Petes, noting his focus on players and his experience and leadership.
Away from hockey, Neville has worked as a family physician, occupational health physician, coroner and medical review officer. He has also held academic and health-care leadership roles.
Neville becomes the fifth Petes representative to receive the Bill Long Award, joining Pat Casey, Jeff Twohey, Norm Bryan and Herb Warr.
