Two Lindsay manufacturers are receiving more than $7 million in federal funding to expand, modernize their operations and adopt new technology.
The federal government announced the funding through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative, with investments going to Mariposa Dairy Ltd. and Armada Toolworks Ltd.
Mariposa Dairy is receiving a repayable contribution of more than $6.5 million toward a $19.5-million project to expand its Lindsay facility and introduce advanced automated processing, packaging and shipping technologies.
Company co-owners Bruce and Sharon Vandenberg say the investment will help accelerate the dairy’s move toward greater automation.
“FedDev Ontario’s funding has been instrumental in accelerating our automation journey,” they said, adding the new technology will help improve efficiency, competitiveness and long-term growth.
Armada Toolworks is receiving more than $650,000 toward a project valued at more than $1.3 million. The company plans to integrate new technology and manufacturing processes as it diversifies into new markets, including the medical device industry.
Armada president Chris van den Berg said the funding will help the company make the investments required for that transition.
“Armada is very excited about our business pivot into the medical device industry,” said van den Berg. “In the long term, this will allow Armada to continue to thrive and to retain and grow our Lindsay workforce.”
Federal Minister Evan Solomon said supporting manufacturers in communities such as Lindsay is important to strengthening Canada’s economy.
“Local manufacturers are the backbone of Canada’s economy,” Solomon said, adding the investments will help the two companies adopt advanced technologies, increase productivity and remain competitive.
The announcement also highlighted the work of Launch Kawartha, which has previously supported both companies through financing and business advisory services.
The federal government says the investments are intended to strengthen the region’s food-processing and advanced-manufacturing sectors while helping Canadian businesses respond to changing market conditions.
