When the 23rd ReFrame Film Festival flickers to life in Peterborough early next year, Ryan Barnett’s fingerprints will be all over it.
The PCVS graduate, who holds a Master’s degree in film studies, was recently named ReFrame’s new creative director, filling a void resulting from the departure of Eryn Lidster.
The founder of Knockabout Media whose work has been featured across Canada, Barnett was a finalist for two 2026 Digital Publishing Awards for the podcast series Story Girl: The Life of Lucy Maud Montgomery and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood North.
Barnett says while’s he’s never attended ReFrame, he’s well aware of its reputation.
Barnett says spending a couple of weeks onboarding with Lidster has already proved beneficial.
One thing that Barnett will continue to foster is the festival’s connection with local filmmakers.
Some 15,000 people engage annually with the festival and its associated year-round programming.
