As a summer destination, Trent Lakes is blessed with the perfect blend of geographical splendour and seasonal events that have proven to be annual staples for thousands of township visitors.
As a nod to the Trent-Severn Waterway which has played a major role in the township’s tourism economy, Trent Lakes formally assumed its name in 2013, replacing the much more cumbersome Galway-Cavendish and Harvey.
A must-visit destination for many is Buckhorn, which is not only home to Lock 31 – one of the busiest locks on the Trent-Severn Waterway – but is also the centre of much of the township’s cultural activity, including the very popular Buckhorn Festival of the Arts which is set for August 15 and 16 at the Buckhorn Community Centre.
Ryley Gutoskie, tourism and communications advisor with The Kawarthas Tourism, says while Buckhorn gets a lot of attention, and rightly so, Trent Lakes is about so much more than the pretty hamlet located at the juncture of Buckhorn and Lower Buckhorn Lakes.
Gutoskie says Trent Lakes’ abundant natural beauty, on its own, is a treat to take in.
Gutoskie says there’s an ebb and flow to Trent Lakes’ tourism seasons that makes the township it particularly appealing as not only a must-visit destination but as a place to call home.
