The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers beat the Oakville Rock 7-3 Saturday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre to take a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five semifinal series.
The Lakers and Rock were tied 1-1 after the first period. Colton Armitage scored Peterborough’s goal.
Peterborough scored three times late in the second period to take a 4-1 lead into the third. Ryan Lanchbury scored twice in 1:08, followed by Armitage’s second goal of the game 36 seconds later.
Oakville’s Alex Simmons scored twice in the third period. Thomas Hoggarth scored for Peterborough after receiving a pass from Brenden Boyle, who intercepted the ball during a three-on-one Oakville rush. Matt Gilray scored twice into the empty net.
Lakers goaltender Drew Hutchison made 51 saves.
Armitage said the crowd could be a factor in Game 4.
“I expect a lot of energy from the crowd to get us going,” he said after the game. “All gas, no breaks and we’ll finish it off on Tuesday.”
