Peterborough City Council has received an update highlighting progress on the city’s economic development initiatives during the first six months of 2026.
Council endorsed an information report outlining key achievements between January and June, including the expansion of the City’s Economic Development team. A new manager joined the department in January, while two Economic Development Officers were hired in June, bringing the team to full capacity.
The report also notes the City secured approximately $92,000 in grant funding to support the development of its Economic Development Strategic Plan and work aimed at attracting foreign direct investment.
Staff continue to pursue investment opportunities across the industrial, commercial, hospitality and film sectors through trade missions and relationships with investors and site selectors.
Another milestone was the launch of the Peterborough Aerospace & Defence Cluster in June, bringing together 60 local businesses, post-secondary institutions and public sector partners to support growth in the sector.
The City’s Economic Development Strategic Plan is also underway, with public consultation continuing ahead of its anticipated completion later this year.
