A Peterborough woman previously charged in the death of her mother is now facing a charge of first-degree murder.
Peterborough Police say, following continued investigation, 45-year-old Sarah-Jayne Maier was re-arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of 74-year-old Susan Maier.
The accused was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The case began on June 9, when officers were called to the area of the London Street footbridge on the east side of the Otonabee River after reports of a woman in the water.
Officers pulled the woman from the river and attempted life-saving measures before she was transported to Peterborough Regional Health Centre, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators continue to ask anyone who was on the Rotary Trail between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on June 9 to contact Peterborough Police or Crime Stoppers.
