A 37-year-old Peterborough man is facing a robbery charge after an attempted purse snatching left a woman injured in downtown Peterborough Thursday afternoon.
Peterborough Police say officers were called to the area of King and George streets at about 12:40 p.m. after several bystanders reported seeing a man trying to steal a woman’s purse.
Police allege the 63-year-old victim was dragged across the street before the suspect let go of the purse and fled after bystanders intervened.
Members of the Emergency Response Team, Community F.I.R.S.T. Unit and K9 Unit, who were already patrolling the downtown core, responded immediately and began searching for the suspect.
Investigators also used the city’s downtown CCTV camera system to assist in the search, leading officers to locate and arrest a 37-year-old Peterborough man.
The victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accused is charged with robbery with violence and was held in custody for a court appearance scheduled for July 31.
