The inaugural International Indoor Junior Lacrosse North America Cup Series, scheduled to take place in Peterborough next month, has been cancelled.
In a statement, International Indoor Junior Lacrosse (IIJL) said it made the “difficult decision” to cancel the event because of unforeseen circumstances that affected participation levels.
The tournament had been scheduled for Aug. 7 to 9 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre and was set to feature Canada, the United States and the Haudenosaunee. It was also intended to serve as a final evaluation opportunity for players hoping to earn spots on the 2026 IIJL World U18 Lacrosse Championship rosters.
“The IIJL has made the difficult decision to cancel the North America Cup Series,” the organization said. “While we were looking forward to bringing teams together for this event, unforeseen circumstances have impacted participation levels.”
The organization added it hopes to bring the tournament to Peterborough in the future.
“We are optimistic about identifying an opportunity to pursue this event in Peterborough in the future and thank the City of Peterborough, Peterborough Memorial Centre, and Peterborough Tourism for their support as a key collaborator and strong supporter of lacrosse events.”
The event had been announced earlier this summer as a new international showcase expected to highlight Peterborough’s reputation as one of Canada’s premier lacrosse communities while generating tourism and economic activity.
