Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region is inviting golfers, businesses and community supporters to hit the links next month in support of affordable homeownership.
The Play to Build Golf Tournament will take place Aug. 25 at Kawartha Golf Club, with proceeds supporting Habitat PKR’s affordable homeownership program. The event is presented in partnership with Kitchens Depot.
The day begins at 11 a.m. with coffee and a spit-roast lunch, followed by 18 holes of golf featuring contests, prizes and sponsor activations. A hole-in-one competition on the 18th hole will give golfers a chance to win $25,000 toward a kitchen renovation. A taco dinner and awards celebration will follow the tournament.
Funds raised will help Habitat PKR continue its affordable homeownership model, which offers families geared-to-income mortgages with no down payment required.
The organization is aiming to create at least 149 new affordable homeownership opportunities across Peterborough, the Kawarthas and Haliburton County over the next three years. Construction is already underway on three homes in Norwood, which will provide housing for three local families.
“These projects are ambitious because the need demands ambition,” said Habitat PKR CEO Susan Zambonin. “Creating more affordable homeownership opportunities takes an entire community coming together.”
Since 2002, Habitat PKR has helped more than 100 local families achieve affordable homeownership.
Individual registrations cost $250 and include golf, meals, contests and prizes.
