The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers are bringing back one of their most popular promotions after making history at the Peterborough Memorial Centre earlier this summer.
The team’s first-ever Toonie Dog Night on June 4 saw fans purchase 924 hot dogs, setting a new PMC record for the most hot dogs sold during a lacrosse game.
Now, the $2 hot dog promotion returns next Thursday, July 23, as part of Retro Night presented by Lansdowne Place.
Lakers officials say the event created a fun atmosphere at the Memorial Centre, with fans lining up for affordable food while cheering on the team.
The Lakers are now aiming even higher, setting a new goal of selling 1,386 hot dogs during the promotion. The number honours the 1986 Lansdowne Place Maulers, who will be recognized during the evening’s festivities.
“The countdown to 1,386 for ’86 begins now,” the team said.
Pete Dalliday, the Lakers’ Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships, said the response to the first event exceeded expectations.
“We wanted to create an affordable and memorable experience for our fans, and the response was beyond our expectations,” Dalliday said. “To sell 924 hot dogs on our first attempt is incredible. Now the challenge becomes breaking our own record.”
The Lakers thanked Maple Leaf Foods, Levy Canada, The Real Canadian Superstore and the City of Peterborough for helping make the first promotion a success.
Fans attending Retro Night will have the chance to enjoy the $2 hot dogs while the Lakers try to set another Memorial Centre record.
