Two people wanted in connection with an incident that began early Thursday morning in Peterborough have been arrested and are facing multiple charges, police said.
Officers were called to a residence in the Harper Road and Rye Street area shortly after midnight on July 2 after receiving reports that an ankle monitor had been cut off.
Police allege a 24-year-old woman, who was on a release order while facing an accessory-after-the-fact-to-murder charge, removed the monitoring device and fled the area. During the incident, another woman who attempted to stop her from leaving was allegedly assaulted by a man.
Officers searched the neighbourhood but were unable to locate either suspect at the time. Warrants were later issued for their arrests.
At about 10:45 p.m. Thursday, police received information that both individuals had been seen near Park Street North and Romaine Street.
Responding officers located the male suspect, and Police Service Dog Gryphon was deployed in a bark-and-hold operation. The man was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators then learned the female suspect was nearby and found her behind a building. Police said an officer drew a conducted energy weapon after the woman allegedly refused to remove her hands from her pockets. She was subsequently arrested without incident.
The 24-year-old Peterborough woman has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and failing to comply with a release order. She was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
A 44-year-old Peterborough man, who was also wanted on outstanding warrants for theft under $5,000 and three counts of failing to comply with probation, faces additional charges of assault and three further counts of breaching probation conditions.
He was also held in custody and was expected to appear in court on Friday.
The charges have not been tested in court.
