A family is grieving the loss of a 39 year old Oshawa man after he drowned in the Otonabee River on Tuesday, and a 28 year old is facing charges following a boating incident.
The OPP say that there were a total of four people on the vessel, and one of the passengers fell into the river when another boat passed by. Unfortunately the man was not wearing a life jacket when he fell and could no longer be seen.
Just before 9pm on Tuesday night, the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located the body of the victim and pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say while talking with the three others that were on the boat at the time, they determined that the man who was operating the vessel had been drinking.
The operator provided a breath sample and the 28 year old from Whitchurch-Stouffville was charged with operation while impaired and operation causing death. He was held for a bail hearing.
