A 26-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after police say residents detained an armed suspect found behind a home.
Peterborough police were called to a residence at about 10 p.m. on June 27 after a homeowner reported discovering a man carrying a knife at the rear of the property.
Officers arrived to find the suspect being restrained on the ground by the homeowner and several neighbours. Police say the man had been disarmed before officers reached the scene.
Following an investigation, the accused was charged with trespassing at night, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order.
Police allege the accused was bound by a probation condition requiring him to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The man was held in custody for a Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court appearance on June 28, 2026.
