Members of 100 Women Peterborough gathered for their second meeting of the year on June 16, where the organization’s new leadership was announced and more than $10,000 was awarded to Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region.
Attendees heard presentations from three local charities making a difference across the community. Representatives from Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region, One City Peterborough, and the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation each shared their organization’s mission, impact and current needs with members of the collective. Following the presentations, members cast their votes, ultimately selecting Habitat for Humanity as the evening’s recipient.
“A safe place. That’s not a small thing. That is the thing that makes everything else possible, said Natalie Raponie, Operations General Manager at Habitat for Humanity. “The dollars raised today in this room would cover the cost of the commercial sprinkler system, and that’s the difference between a house and a home that’s actually safe. I am extremely happy and elated. Thank you for making this possible.”
The evening also marked a significant milestone for 100 Women as longtime organizers, Rose Terry, Alyssa Stewart and Wendy Hill, passed leadership of the organization to long time members Rita Wilke, Natalie Raponie and Janie Kelly.
“When we started this journey, we knew that collective giving could create meaningful change in our region, but we could never have imagined the incredible impact this community would have,” said Rose Terry, co-founder of 100 Women Peterborough. “Together, we have now raised more than $263,000 for local charities and causes that are helping people throughout Peterborough and the surrounding area. We are immensely proud of what this group has accomplished and deeply grateful to every woman who has been part of this collective. As we pass the torch to a new generation of leaders, we do so with complete confidence. Fresh perspectives and new energy will ensure this impactful giving group continues to thrive and make a difference in our community for years to come.”
Since its inception, 100 Women Peterborough has brought together women from across the region who believe in the power of collective philanthropy. Through quarterly meetings, members pool their contributions to create immediate and meaningful support for local charitable organizations.
The group also announced the charities selected through a draw to present at the next meeting. Members will hear from: Lakefield Youth Unlimited, Farms at Work and Peterborough Folk Festival.
