A 21-year-old Peterborough man and a youth from Campbellford are facing multiple charges following an assault that led to two police officers being injured Saturday night.
Peterborough police say officers responded to several 911 calls shortly after 8:30 p.m. on June 27 reporting an ongoing assault near the Trans Canada Trail Bridge.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers were directed to two individuals who were walking away. Police allege both ignored commands to stop and continued into active traffic, prompting a brief foot pursuit.
The pair were taken into custody, but during the arrests two officers were assaulted. Police say one officer was struck in the face while another was kicked and spit on.
The victim involved in the initial assault was transported to Peterborough Regional Health Centre by ambulance.
As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old Peterborough man was charged with assault, resisting a peace officer and being intoxicated in a public place under the Liquor Licence and Control Act.
A youth from Campbellford was charged with assault, two counts of assaulting a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, breaching a probation order and being intoxicated in a public place.
Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identity of the young person cannot be released.
Both accused were held in custody for Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on June 28.
