Local youths affected by domestic abuse are being provided a unique opportunity to boost their self-esteem and confidence.
The Fight for the Future Fund, created by Eastside Boxing and Wellness owner Marsha Gaulton, has evolved into a partnership with the YWCA, providing youths aged 12 to 16 with access to an introductory boxing program. Participants will be chosen based on identified need, and will receive starter equipment and registration with Boxing Ontario.
Gaulton says her experience as a teen in an unhealthy relationship is at the root of the idea for, and her subsequent development, of the program.
Gaulton says the transformations she has witnessed are quite something, citing one particular case.
Gaulton says being able to offer this program is as therapeutic for her as it is for participants.
