Northumberland OPP is investigating an assault that occurred at Warkworth Institution earlier this spring.
Police say they received a report of the incident on May 23, 2026, involving several inmates at the facility. Following the assault, the victim was transported to a local hospital. Authorities confirmed the injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The investigation remained ongoing in the weeks following the initial report, with OPP gathering evidence and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As a result of the investigation, two inmates have since been charged. A 25-year-old male and a 31-year-old male were each charged on June 17, with assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement.
Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in August.
Police have not released further details about the individuals involved, citing the ongoing nature of the case.
The OPP Northumberland Detachment continues to investigate and is asking anyone with additional information related to the incident to come forward through appropriate channels.
