The Peterborough Humane Society welcomed approximately 1,000 people to its annual Pet Fest celebration on Saturday, turning its Technology Drive campus into a hub of family-friendly activities, live entertainment and community support.
The event, held at the Peterborough Animal Care Centre, featured food vendors, children’s activities, live music, a pet fashion show and a record number of exhibitors in the popular Meow Market.
Organizers say the event was made possible through the support of several sponsors, including lead sponsor Peterborough Mitsubishi, along with PFW Country Store, Jackson Creek Animal Hospital, Nexicom and Can-Pet.
Visitors enjoyed live music from SJ Riley, readings by local children’s author Judi Barr, games and activities for children, and attractions designed for both pets and their owners.
One of the day’s highlights was the official unveiling of Liam’s Memorial Garden & Park, a new space located along the Peterborough Animal Care Centre walking trail.
The project was funded through a donation from Liam’s Dream Foundation and was formally opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Dr. Kathleen Norman, her son Liam and other family members.
The garden is intended as a peaceful place for reflection, celebrating the bond between people and their pets. The space includes a memorial wall where supporters can honour beloved animals through personalized paw-print plaques.
Peterborough Humane Society officials say the new garden and park will serve as a lasting tribute to the pets that have touched the lives of local families while providing another community gathering space on the property.
The organization also credited the many volunteers who helped make the event a success, assisting with everything from welcoming guests to organizing activities and keeping the day running smoothly.
The Peterborough Humane Society says community members interested in supporting Liam’s Memorial Garden & Park, the Peterborough Animal Care Centre trail system, or other sponsorship opportunities are encouraged to contact the organization for more information.
