A lasting tribute to the service, sacrifice and contributions of local veterans was unveiled Saturday (June 20) in Lakefield in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Branch 77 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Local dignitaries gathered with veterans for the unveiling of a memorial crosswalk in front of Memorial Hall on Queen Street at Albert Street.
Among those addressing the crowd were MPP Dave Smith, Selwyn Mayor Sherry Senis and Curve Lake First Nation Chief Keith Knott.
In addition, Branch 77 president Lorna MacDonald noted “We have been waiting to make this happen for quite a while,” adding “We thought our 100th anniversary would be a fitting time.”
