A 21-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after an alleged armed robbery at a west-end convenience store and in connection with two earlier vandalism incidents.
Peterborough Police say officers were called to a convenience store in the Clonsilla Avenue and Goodfellow Road area at about 4 a.m. Thursday following reports of a robbery in progress. Investigators allege the suspect threatened a store clerk with a kitchen utensil before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.
Responding officers spotted a man matching the suspect description and attempted to stop him. Police say the man failed to comply with commands, prompting an officer to draw a conducted energy weapon. The suspect was then taken into custody without incident.
During the arrest, police allege the man initially provided a false name to officers.
Further investigation revealed the suspect was wanted on four outstanding warrants and was also connected to two incidents on June 7 in which convenience store windows were smashed. The vandalism incidents occurred at stores on Armour Road in East City and on King Street during the early morning hours.
As a result, the 21-year-old Peterborough man was arrested on the outstanding warrants and charged with robbery with a weapon, obstructing a peace officer and two counts of mischief under $5,000.
The accused was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on June 18.
