A 39-year-old Peterborough man is facing an assault charge after an alleged attack in the city’s downtown Monday morning that left an older man requiring medical treatment.
Peterborough Police say an officer on general patrol was in the area of Reid and Simcoe streets at approximately 8:30 a.m. on June 15 when they noticed a group of people gathered around an injured man.
According to police, the officer learned the victim had allegedly been punched in the face by another man known to him.
Paramedics attended the scene and treated the victim before transporting him to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for further care.
Police say officers obtained a description of the suspect and located a man matching that description a short distance away. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with one count of assault.
Police have not released the extent of the victim’s injuries. The investigation remains ongoing.
