Sometimes when a community goes to the dogs, well, that’s a good thing.
On June 14th, canines and their humans will take over Lakefield when the third annual Doggie Dash is held at Isabel Morris Park.
A fundraiser for the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society (LAWS), participants can choose to walk a 1.5-kilometre route or a 2.5-kilometre route through the village. Drag performer Betty Baker will lead the former while Washboard Hank will front the latter.
After the walk, Caitlin O’Conner and The Detention Club will entertain in the park where they’ll also be food vendors and a silent auction featuring Blue Jays tickets, Wildfire Golf Club round passes, camping gear and more.
LAWS operations director Lyndsay Lisson-De Ell says each participant’s pledge is vital to the operation of the shelter.
Lisson De-Ell says organizing the fundraiser is no small feat.
Lisson De-Ell says the event is a welcome fun time for LAWS staff who often have to deal with stressful situations.
Participants, who are asked to pledge a minimum of $100, can register at www.lakefieldanimalwelfare.org. The on-site check-in is at noon, with the walks starting at 1 p.m.
