Peterborough mayoral candidate Neil Morton is taking his campaign directly to residents with a series of public policy sessions designed to help shape his platform ahead of the municipal election.
Just days after officially launching his mayoral bid, Morton announced the “Together, We Will” policy series, a schedule of five community working sessions focused on some of the city’s most pressing issues.
The 90-minute meetings will bring together residents, subject-matter experts and people with lived experience to discuss challenges and potential solutions in areas ranging from economic development to affordability and homelessness.
“At our launch at Market Hall, I said I’m a community builder, and I’ll lead with transparency and open communication,” Morton said in a statement.
He said the sessions build on previous consultation efforts, including his “100 Coffees” listening tour, a public priorities survey and door-to-door canvassing across the city.
Morton said the campaign slogan, “Together, We Will,” reflects his belief that community collaboration is key to addressing Peterborough’s challenges.
The series will begin June 9 with a session on civic engagement at the Peterborough Animal Care Centre in Ashburnham Ward.
Subsequent meetings will focus on economic development, taxes and affordability, downtown revitalization and compassionate community investments. Sessions are scheduled in each of Peterborough’s five wards through mid-July.
According to the campaign, topics were selected based on priorities identified by residents during recent consultations.
Morton said summaries of each discussion will be published online following the events, with feedback helping to inform his policy positions and campaign platform.
Attendance at the sessions will be limited, and residents are being asked to register in advance through the campaign website.
The events come as candidates begin outlining their visions for Peterborough ahead of the next municipal election campaign.
