A 34-year-old Peterborough man is facing multiple charges after a reported shoplifting incident at a west-end business.
Officers with the Peterborough Police Service were called to the area of Lansdowne Street West and Brealey Drive at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday following reports of a theft from a store.
Police say officers searching the area spotted a man matching the suspect description riding a bicycle. According to investigators, the man got off the bicycle and attempted to hide behind a bush before being taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, the Peterborough man was charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 by shoplifting, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order and one count of entering premises when entry is prohibited under the Trespass to Property Act.
Police allege the accused was bound by two probation orders at the time of the incident. Conditions reportedly included staying away from the business involved and keeping the peace and being of good behaviour.
The accused was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on June 2.
