A Peterborough-based organization that has found homes for “a couple of thousand” abandoned husky and malamute dogs is hosting a two-day fundraiser this weekend to sustain its rescue dog work.
On Saturday and Sunday (May 30 and 31), 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days, a yard and bake sale will be held at 1037 Ford Street with all proceeds going to the Siberian Malamute Alaskan Rescue Team, or SMART for short.
Registered veterinary technician Michelle Wilson and SMART coordinator says most of the adoptable dogs come from shelters where they are in danger of being euthanized while others have been surrendered by their owners. In short, she says, it’s about giving the dogs a second chance.
