The Lakelands Public Health team invited residents to make an impact on the future of local public health at a Community Town Hall event.
Community members, organizations and health care providers gathered at the McDonnel Community Centre to participate in Tuesday’s session, sharing ideas, concerns and priorities to help shape the future of public health.
The event included opening speeches from Board of Health Chairs Ron Black and Keith Riel, a round table discussion with health care professionals and information on last year’s merging of the HKPR District Health Unit and the Peterborough Public Health unit.
PTBOTODAY.ca spoke with Dr. Thomas Piggott, Medical Officer of Health and Chief Executive Officer with Lakelands Public Health, who reflected on the importance of residents attending public health events to ask questions and share their thoughts.
Dr. Piggott said the Lakelands Public Health team has gained valuable feedback from Community Town Halls.
Upcoming town hall sessions are to be held at Curve Lake First Nation on June 4, Hiawatha First Nation on June 25 and Alderville First Nation on an undetermined date. Dr. Piggott encourages anyone interested in learning more about public health to attend.
