The YWCA Peterborough Haliburton is preparing to host its annual Walk a Mile in Their Shoes fundraiser in downtown Peterborough.
The event will take place at noon at Confederation Square on Friday and aims to raise awareness about domestic violence while supporting programs and services for women, children and gender-diverse individuals in the community.
Organizers say funds raised through donations and community fundraising efforts will support the YWCA’s Journey of Care initiative, which includes programs such as the Crossroads Shelter and the START Program.
The organization says the initiative is designed to provide not only emergency shelter and safety, but also long-term healing and support services for those escaping gender-based violence.
Participants will walk in solidarity to highlight the impact of domestic violence in the region and help ensure vulnerable individuals have access to safe spaces and wraparound care.
The annual event is one of the YWCA’s key community fundraisers and supports ongoing services aimed at helping individuals rebuild their lives free from violence and fear.
