Listeners in Peterborough will soon have the chance to control the airwaves while helping fund healthcare close to home through a new community radiothon supporting Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation.
The ‘Pay to Play for PRHC’ fundraiser, presented by Home Instead, will air live on Oldies 96.7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 5 from the cafeteria.
Listeners can request songs by making a minimum $50 donation to the PRHC Foundation’s Campaign for PRHC, with proceeds helping fund hospital equipment and technology.
“This is what local radio is supposed to be. Not just background noise, but a force,” said Rob Mise, vice-president of content at My Broadcasting Corporation. “When our audience shows up, we can literally change the level of care in our own regional hospital. That’s powerful.”
Throughout the broadcast, listeners will also hear stories from patients, nurses, physicians, hospital staff and donors about the impact community fundraising has on healthcare services across the region.
Host of ‘The Morning Edition’ on Oldies 96.7, Bill Porter says the fundraiser connects music directly to improved patient care.
Lesley Heighway, president and CEO of the PRHC Foundation, said partnerships like the radiothon play an important role in ensuring patients continue to receive high-quality care locally.
President and CEO, Dr. Lynn Mikula, says finding new ways to support the foundation is key because it’s the PRHC’s most important partner.
Organizers say song requests will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the broadcast schedule is full, with donations continuing to be accepted throughout the event.
