Dorina Boka, an 18-year-old powerlifter, is set to represent both Canada and Peterborough in international powerlifting in South Africa.
Boka has been lifting since she was 16-years-old during high school and also while also participating in many other extracurricular activities.
Boka has already placed first in three competitions here in Canada. She first competed for the Trinity Barbell on November 30th, 2024 in Scarborough. Then she competed in the CanPL Central Canadian Championships on August 22nd, 2025 in Quebec City. Finally, she competed in the 2026 CanPL National Championships in St. John’s, Newfoundland
The path to the world championships wasn’t easy, Boka says there were many moments that were difficult and unmotivating but she kept pushing through it.
Boka says despite all the difficulties it gave her as a high schooler and young adult in university she says she cannot believe how successful she has been in powerlifting.
Boka attributed a lot of her success to her extensive support system that she has in her family and at school.
The World Championship Competition is The 2026 IPF World Sub-Junior & Junior Classic & Equipped Powerlifting Championships in Sun City, South Africa. It will take place from August 18 to the 29, she competes on the 24th for team Canada.
