The third annual YMCA Peterborough Pickleball Tournament has raised more than $16,000 in support of local youth programming.
Hosted Saturday at the YMCA of Central East Ontario Balsillie Family Branch, the fundraiser featured Team Hamblin and Team Pearce competing for the “Golden Pickle” trophy and community bragging rights.
Led by local realtors Wade Hamblin and Shaun Pearce, the tournament saw Team Pearce emerge victorious after what organizers described as a closely contested competition.
Organizers said the event raised $16,275 for the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, which helps children and families access recreation and community programming regardless of financial circumstances.
Team Pearce was also recognized as the tournament’s top fundraising team, while Lindsay Seabrooke earned honours as the top individual fundraiser.
The event also featured demonstrations and exhibition play from pickleball players Marie Aubie and Alan Sargeant.
Following the tournament, the YMCA officially launched its 2026 Strong Kids Campaign and announced a leadership transition connected to the initiative.
After 15 years as campaign chair and two decades as a board member, Dave Morello is stepping away from the role. The YMCA thanked him for his longstanding leadership and community service.
Shaun Pearce will now serve as the new chair of the Strong Kids Campaign as the organization prepares for its next fundraising chapter.
Organizers thanked sponsors, players, donors and volunteers for helping make the annual fundraiser a success.
