The Peterborough Humane Society says its spring 50/50 jackpot has climbed past $80,000 dollars which is the highest total in the fundraiser’s history.
The twice-a-year lottery launched in 2024 in order to raise funds and awareness for the humane society, officials say support has continued to grow with each campaign.
This year also marks a new partnership with Miskin Law, allowing organizers to add a second Early Bird prize.
Kevin MacKenzie, Director of Fund Development, says the added excitement has helped drive ticket sales.
The current jackpot has already surpassed the previous record of just over 57-thousand dollars, and MacKenzie says both staff and supporters have been surprised by how quickly the prize total has grown.
Funds raised through the lottery help support animal care, shelter operations and community programs at the humane society.
PHS is also excited for the future as they’ve partnered with Fleming College for a new veterinarian technician program for an area that is limited in vet education.
Ticket sales remain open until Friday at 1 p.m., with organizers expecting the jackpot to continue climbing over the final days of the campaign.
