Drivers in Peterborough will face an overnight road closure on part of Chemong Road this weekend as crews complete scheduled watermain work.
The City of Peterborough says Chemong Road will be closed to through traffic between Highland Road and Bellevue Street beginning at 5 pm on Sunday, May 10, reopening at 7 am on Monday, May 11.
During the closure, access through the area will be limited to emergency vehicles only.
A detour route will direct motorists along Towerhill Road, Fairbairn Street and Parkhill Road West.
The City says temporary water service disruptions are also expected for properties on Chemong Road between Highland Road and Bellevue Street while the work is underway. Affected customers are being notified in advance.
Officials add that some residents may notice temporary discoloured water once the work is complete due to sediment in the system. Residents are advised to run the cold water tap closest to the water meter for 10 to 15 minutes until the water clears. If discolouration continues, they should wait an hour and repeat the process.
The work is part of ongoing maintenance to the city’s water infrastructure.
