The first week of the nomination filing period for this fall’s municipal election was a busy one with 17 declared candidates vying for one of 11 council seats.
As of Friday (May 8), five mayor hopefuls – Keith Riel, Dr. Michael Eamon, Neil Morton, Rebecca Schillemat and Jacob Méthot – had filed.
Meanwhile, Otonabee Ward sees Lesley Parnell and Chris Potter running; Monaghan Ward candidates are Matt Crowley, Jen Lacey and AJ Shearer; Town Ward has Alex Bierk, Joy Lachica and Jessica Kuhlmorgen-Hille in the mix; Ashburnham Ward candidates are Gary Baldwin and Ashley Bonner; and, in Northcrest Ward, Gavin Muir and Phil Jolicoeur have declared as candidates.
The municipal election will be held October 26th. Those looking to stand for election have until August 21st to file nomination papers.
