Routine watermain flushing will take place across Peterborough starting Monday as part of scheduled maintenance aimed at maintaining water quality in the distribution system.
Work will continue until Friday, June 26, and will be carried out between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in various neighbourhoods throughout the city.
The City says the flushing process removes built-up scale and sediment from watermains as part of preventative maintenance on the system.
Residents may notice temporary discolouration in tap water following flushing activity. The City notes the water remains safe to drink. If discolouration occurs, residents are advised to run cold water from the tap closest to the water meter for 10 to 15 minutes or until it clears, and repeat the process after waiting about an hour if needed.
Water Services can be reached at 705-748-9301 ext. 1295 during regular business hours for issues such as discoloured water or watermain breaks on public property. After-hours emergencies can be reported at 705-748-9300.
