Artspace Peterborough will officially reveal completed renovations and a new partnership on May 1.
The upgrades were made with support from Four Points Construction, Kingdon Timber Mart, and volunteers. The changes include improved accessibility, reorganized storage, updates to the kitchenette and library space, and adjustments to make areas wheelchair accessible.
Construction is also underway on a new rear hallway that will improve access to washrooms, add privacy, increase storage, and include display space for Artspace publications.
The centre also notes that Art Factory has moved into the space as a new retail partner for art supplies, replacing Victory Art Supply as the sole independent fine art materials provider in Peterborough. The organization says increased foot traffic has tripled, which it identifies as a growing source of support for programming and sustainability.
Artspace says the renovations are intended to improve flexibility for exhibitions and workshops while expanding gallery space.
A public celebration will take place on May 1 during regular hours (12 pm to 6 pm) and First Friday hours (6 pm to 9 pm). Visitors are also encouraged to attend during or after the Book and Zine Festival running May 1 to 2.
Artspace, founded in 1974, is an artist-run centre focused on contemporary art exhibitions and community programming.
